John Simpson welcomed to Brasenose

JohnSimpsonThe College is pleased to announce that John Simpson, the well-known broadcaster and journalist has joined Brasenose as an academic visitor. John studied at Cambridge University and started in journalism as a trainee sub-editor for radio. He worked for much of his career for the BBC, and after spells as chief political editor and presenter of the 9 o’clock news, he settled into the role for which he is most famous – that of foreign affairs correspondent. Over the course of a highly eventful career, he covered 46 wars across 4 continents and interviewed some 200 world leaders, including every British Prime minister from Harold Wilson onwards. He has also written several books and articles for broadsheet newspapers. John has recently settled in Oxford and is an academic visitor at Oxford, based at Brasenose. We are looking forward to welcoming him further into the College community and are delighted that he has already agreed to contribute to our programme of events.

Many of our current undergraduates contribute regularly to Oxford University's two student newspapers and recent graduates have followed a pathway into journalism, including Henry Zeffman and the current Home Editor for The Times, Fay Schlesinger, and Toby Young.
