In Memory of Nancy Bixby

SCROLL TO EXPLORE

Alumni from Brasenose College have come together in a spirit of generosity to honour the life of Nancy Bixby (Fine Art, 1991), raising support for current students through the College’s Student Support (The Arts)—an initiative that reflects both her values and her lifelong commitment to creativity and education.

Marking one year since her passing, members of the 1991 cohort, alongside friends and family, were moved to celebrate Nancy’s legacy in a way that would have mattered most to her: by helping young people access artistic opportunities. With the blessing of her parents, this collective effort has transformed remembrance into meaningful support for student creativity.

Nancy is remembered by those who knew her as warm, generous, and full of humour, with a remarkable ability to bring joy to others. She devoted much of her life to teaching and supporting young people, both in the UK and overseas. Even during a long illness, she continued to create and inspire, showing great courage and grace.

Funds raised in her memory are being used to support Brasenose students pursuing the arts, including providing materials, enabling exhibitions, and supporting participation in events such as the Edinburgh Fringe. In this way, the initiative not only honours Nancy’s love of the arts but also extends her impact to future generations.

While contributions were entirely voluntary, the response from alumni reflects the deep affection and respect held for Nancy across the community. Through this shared act of giving, her legacy continues to foster creativity, opportunity, and connection within Brasenose and beyond.
