About the Thursday Organ Recitals
The Thursday Organ Recitals are a series of 30-minute lunchtime concerts held in the College chapel. They centre on the College’s organ, installed in September 2024 by the Belgian firm Orgues de Facto, a 15-stop instrument conceived in the sound-world of the original William Hill organ of the late nineteenth century.
The recitals offer an opportunity to hear the instrument across a range of repertoire in the context for which it was designed.

Organ recitals at Brasenose College are played on the chapel organ built by Orgues de Facto (Belgium) and installed in 2024. The instrument is constructed in the English Romantic tradition of William Hill and is housed in the restored T. G. Jackson case of the original 1892 organ; the west-facing façade pipes from Hill’s instrument, which had become non-speaking in later versions, have been re-lengthened and returned to speaking use.

The organ comprises Great, Swell and Pedal divisions. The Great provides the principal chorus and trumpet; the enclosed Swell offers flute, string and reed colours with tremulant; and the Pedal supplies bass, flute and reed registers.
