The Heffernan Sinclair Scholarship

SCROLL TO EXPLORE
Peter Sinclair was a much-loved and deeply respected member of the Brasenose community. He was an inspiring teacher, an exceptional economist, and a mentor whose warmth, humour and generosity shaped the lives of countless students. His belief in the power of education and his commitment to nurturing future economists remain central to his legacy.
Scholarships such as this are essential. For students in the United Kingdom, rising living and study costs can put postgraduate education beyond reach. For international students, who enrich Brasenose with new perspectives and research interests, the financial barriers are often even higher. Philanthropic support helps remove these obstacles and ensures that the brightest minds can flourish at Oxford regardless of their circumstances.
The Heffernan Sinclair Scholar for 2025 to 2027 is Sofiia Lubiana. Originally from Ukraine, Sofiia moved to the United Kingdom because of the ongoing war and recently completed her BSc in Economics at the University of Essex. Her resilience, academic excellence and passion for economic research embody the spirit of this scholarship. We look forward to welcoming her to Brasenose as she begins her MPhil in October.
Through scholars such as Sofiia, Peter’s legacy lives on. His influence continues to open doors, inspire new ideas and shape the future of economic research. This is the difference that gifts made in his memory continue to achieve.
