Principal's Welcome

Welcome to Brasenose College.

I have had the enormous privilege to return to Brasenose as Principal, having first come here as a student. Brasenose, the eleventh oldest Oxford college – and certainly the only one named after a door knocker – lies in the very heart of Oxford, and is a community dedicated to excellence in scholarship, teaching and research. We have also been described as the friendliest college in Oxford, a reputation we continue to nurture.

Our community brings together people from different disciplines, backgrounds and generations, united by a shared commitment to learning, discovery and mutual support and challenge.

If you are considering applying to study at Brasenose, do start exploring this website to understand what makes Brasenose special. We want to attract applications from the widest possible talent pool, and to challenge, inspire and support our students while they are here. We offer outstanding teaching and research by leading experts in many different disciplines, as well as many opportunities for students to pursue wider interests in sports, music and arts, and along the way, form firm friendships and explore the future and their place in it. Our undergraduates and graduate students are an essential part of our academic community. Generations of Brasenose students have discovered not only what they want to study, but also who they want to become.

Studying here is only the start of membership in a lifelong community, for all our alumni, who are always welcome here. My heartfelt thanks and appreciation go to all our old members who continue to play such an active role in continuing this community.  We are always pleased to support the achievements and engagement of our alumni which sustain our community.
