Dr Marco Dorigatti

Dott.Lett. (Florence), M.A., D.Phil. (Oxon)

Stipendiary Lecturer

I graduated from the University of Florence and then obtained a doctorate from the University of Oxford, where I am now a lecturer in Italian literature. I divide my time between teaching, researching, and supervising advanced doctoral students from this and other European universities. Above all, I am a scholar and a philologist bringing back to life forgotten literary texts of the Italian Renaissance.

I teach Italian language, especially prose composition, FHS Paper I, Italian literature from Dante to the Modern Period included, in particular FHS Papers VII, VIII, IX, X, XI, XII. Also graduate supervision in topics related to main field of research.

I have edited various digital texts for the Oxford Text Archive and I have published numerous articles on Boiardo, Ariosto and the chivalric literary tradition of the Renaissance, G. B. Giraldi Cinthio, and female lyric poets such as Isabella Andreini, with studies also on the modern period (Grazia Deledda, Sibilla Aleramo, Giuseppe Dessì) and on cinema (Bergman and Antonioni).

I am above all a philologist, and in this capacity I have published the first-ever critical edition of Ariosto’s Orlando furioso secondo la princeps del 1516 (Florence: Olschki, 2006) and, jointly with Carla Molinari, Giovan Battista Giraldi Cinthio, Note critiche all’Orlando furioso (Classe I 377 e Classe I 406 della BCAFe) (Ferrara: Edisai, 2018).

I have been a member of the Italian National Committee for the Celebrations of the 5th Anniversary of the Publication of Orlando furioso and, with Maria Pavlova, I have edited the volume ‘Dreaming again on things already dreamed’. 500 years of Orlando furioso (1516-2016) (Oxford-New York: Peter Lang, 2019).
