We usually admit about eight students each year across Classics and the related joint schools, taught by tutors with expertise in Greek and Roman literature and ancient philosophy.

Applicants will need to take the Classics Admissions Test (CAT). Full details of the various pathways, entry requirements and admissions guidance are available on the central Oxford University website. A prior knowledge of Latin or Greek is not required.

Course options

At Brasenose, students can read Classics on its own or as part of Classics and English, Classics and Modern Languages, Classics and Oriental Studies, or Classical Archaeology and Ancient History.

Careers

Brasenose Classicists go on to many different careers, including teaching, publishing, the Civil Service and Foreign Office, advertising, law, journalism, computing, the arts and business. The analytical skills and clarity of thought developed through studying Classics are recognised and valued in a wide range of professions.
