Capital & Endowment Support
SCROLL TO EXPLORE
At Brasenose, sustainability is about more than reducing our environmental footprint. It is about caring for our College in a way that honours its past while securing its future. Our historic buildings are at the heart of College life and we are committed to preserving their character and integrity. At the same time, we aim to ensure they meet the highest standards of energy efficiency, resource management and environmental responsibility. Your support helps Brasenose lead by example, creating a place where future generations can live, learn and thrive in harmony with the world around them.
By prioritising sustainability, we are fostering a culture of environmental stewardship that resonates with our diverse, international community of researchers and students. This holistic approach integrates the preservation of our historic spaces with modern amenities, creating a unique educational environment that values heritage while embracing innovation. In doing so, we prepare our students to become conscientious leaders, equipped to tackle global challenges and inspire others to act sustainably.
Brasenose’s pre-1640 collection offers a remarkable window into the intellectual history of the British Isles, spanning every major academic discipline. From ancient Greek and Roman texts to early editions of Shakespeare, Newton, and Hooke, these rare volumes represent an extraordinary scholarly legacy. Brasenose is committed to bringing our rare books collection out of the shadows, enhancing its accessibility and impact by relocating it to a newly refurbished, purpose-designed reading room on the ground floor of the library. This dedicated space will offer an inspiring environment for students, researchers, and visitors to engage with these historic works.
Our Chapel, a rare example of Cromwellian Commonwealth architecture, exhibits a unique mixture of Gothic and Baroque structures with ornate Victorian detailing. We hope to carry out essential conservation work, ensuring the Chapel’s beautiful tranquillity is safeguarded.
Brasenose College’s sports grounds have served generations of students, but much of the existing infrastructure is now outdated and in need of refurbishment. The surfaces of the running track and tennis courts have deteriorated over time, and the broader grounds would benefit from enhancements to improve drainage, safety, and usability. At the same time, the College aims to integrate biodiversity improvements, including wildflower planting and habitat creation, to enrich the site environmentally.
Endowed gifts provide a stable and lasting source of funding that supports scholarships, academic posts, facilities, and student support; areas that are vital to maintaining our high standards of teaching and research. Philanthropy plays a crucial role in bridging that gap, ensuring we can continue to offer an exceptional education while planning confidently for the future. Growing the endowment through donor support will help us reduce our reliance on annual fundraising and strengthen our long-term resilience.
