Huge congratulations to Brasenose alumnus David Szalay (English, 1992) who has won the Booker Prize 2025 with his novel Flesh. Szalay was previously shortlisted for the prize in 2016 with his short story collecction All That Man Is. This award marks the first time that the prize has been won by a Hungarian-British author.
The Booker Prize site describes the book as ‘Written in spare prose, and spanning decades – from a Hungarian housing estate to the mansions of London’s rich elite – Flesh is a propulsive novel centred on an emotionally detached man who is unravelled by a series of events beyond his grasp.’
