Professor Richard Robson (1955) earned both a BA and DPhil in chemistry at Oxford. After postdoctoral research at the California Institute of Technology and Stanford University, he joined the University of Melbourne in 1966, where he built a long and influential academic career. Robson is widely recognised as a pioneer in the field of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), a class of materials with broad applications in gas storage, catalysis and materials science. In 2025, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his foundational contributions to this field. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 2022 in recognition of his outstanding scientific achievements.
