Sporting Activities

SCROLL TO EXPLORE

Sport plays a central role in life at Brasenose College, supporting students’ physical wellbeing, teamwork and sense of community alongside their academic pursuits. College funding helps ensure that students can take part in university sport regardless of financial circumstance, enabling them to train, compete and represent Oxford at the highest level. In the reflection below, Maia Broughton (Geography, 2023), describes how support from the College Annual Fund helped make her participation in university athletics possible.

I am very grateful to have benefitted from the college support annual fund this year to help support me with my sporting activities. I am a member of Oxford University Athletics Club, and due to the sports fund available through college, this has helped in different aspects. The fund has supported the cost of membership of the club, as well as allowing me to purchase specific equipment to aid my training such as spikes. This has enabled me to compete in different events, including Freshers’ Varsity and FEAR (Field Events and Relays), in which the Oxford Women’s team successfully won both of. I thank the college greatly for this opportunity and look forward to training and competing again this year.

Contributions to the Annual Fund help remove financial barriers by covering essential costs such as club membership and specialist equipment, allowing students to focus on training and competition. By investing in sport, donors enable students to represent Brasenose and Oxford with pride, achieve competitive success and enjoy a balanced, enriching student experience that extends well beyond the classroom.
