Sports, Clubs and Societies

Brasenose has a strong tradition of sporting success and a thriving arts scene.

SCROLL TO EXPLORE

Whether you're interested in rowing, drama, music or something else entirely, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved – although there is no pressure to do so.

Sports

You’ll find sport at whatever level works for you – from serious competition to croquet on the lawn.

The College performs well in intercollegiate competitions and on the river. We have college teams for football, rugby, cricket, hockey, tennis, netball, badminton and pool. The boat club welcomes rowers at all levels, from complete beginners to experienced college rowers.

If competitive sport isn’t your thing, you can punt on the river, play croquet on New Quad, or join in at our annual Sports Day – which includes egg-and-spoon races and a BBQ alongside matches in netball, football and rounders.

Our sports ground has football, cricket and rugby pitches plus tennis courts. The boat club, one of the oldest in the world, is housed nearby. You’ll also get free membership to the University gym.

Drama and art

The Brasenose drama group, which any student can join, puts on garden plays in the College, and in theatres all year round.

Students also organise a week-long summer arts festival, featuring for instance theatre, jazz and acapella performances and craft sessions. Our Arts Week is the largest and longest running college arts festival in Oxford, having been organised annually for more than 25 years.

Recently, the student-produced Brasenose arts magazine NoseDive has been relaunched and has proven to be a fantastic creative outlet.

Music and choir

Music and choir

There is a large and enthusiastic College choir which sings regularly. All students are welcome in the Chapel, whatever their religious beliefs. Chapel activities are entirely optional and voluntary.

There are three music practice spaces available to students: individual practice rooms on main site and Frewin, and the antechapel, which can be booked for individual practice and larger ensembles.
