Meals options

We serve good, affordable food every day, with plenty of choice at each meal.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are available during the week, with brunch at weekends. Meals are optional and you order through the UPay app, with the choice to eat in Hall or take your food away. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options are always available, and we cater for a wide range of dietary requirements. Most meat dishes are halal.

Prices are kept low. Breakfast costs just under £2.50 (with free tea and coffee), a hot lunch or dinner is around £5, and three-course Formal Dinners are around £10.

Cooking for yourself

If you enjoy cooking, some of our accommodation has kitchens you can use. Undergraduates at our Frewin Annexe and postgraduates at St Cross Annexe, Rectory Road and Hollybush Row have kitchen facilities.

If you’re living on the main College site, you’ll have access to microwaves for simple meals and snacks, which many students combine with eating in Hall.

Special dinners

We hold a number of special dinners through the year, including Burns Night, Ale Verses on Shrove Tuesday, Chinese New Year, Christmas and Thanksgiving. Students also organise Sports Dinners and formals linked to equality and diversity, including International Women’s Day and LGBTQ+ dinners.

In the summer months we host garden parties in the quads (when it never rains!).

Postgraduate students have a special dinner each term with an invited guest speaker. Past speakers have included Michael Palin and Raymond Blanc. There is also a Hilary Term dinner where graduates can invite their University supervisors.

The bar

Our bar is open in the evenings and is a lively place to relax with friends.

Drinks are reasonably priced, with a range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic options. The bar has a TV, table football and a dartboard, and it regularly hosts karaoke, quiz nights, games nights, charity auctions, BOPs (fancy-dress parties) and other social events.
