Life at Brasenose

College life at Brasenose means being part of a close-knit community where you can try new things and keep up old hobbies. The JCR and HCR run events throughout the year – from quiz nights and formal dinners to BOPs and drama productions. You’ll have your own room across all your years here, with meals served daily and a bar that opens in the evenings.

Whether you’re playing sport, booking a music practice room, or grabbing coffee between lectures, there’s always plenty going on.

JCR and HCR

The JCR and HCR are an important part of life at Brasenose.

If you’re an undergraduate, you’re part of the Junior Common Room (JCR). Graduate students – and undergraduates in the final year of four-year courses – are part of the Hulme Common Room (HCR). Other colleges call this the MCR, but we’ve always done things slightly differently.

Both terms mean the students themselves, and the actual rooms where you’ll spend time. The JCR and HCR represent your interests, organise social events throughout the year, and support college clubs and societies. The rooms are relaxed spaces where you can meet friends, grab a coffee, or just go to decompress between lectures.
