The Jeffrey Cheah Graduate Scholarship

SCROLL TO EXPLORE

Jeffrey Cheah Graduate Scholar Belinda reflects on the first year of her Engineering Biology Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) at Brasenose. Thanks to the generous support of the Jeffrey Cheah Graduate Scholarship, she has been able to build the knowledge, skills and research experience needed to tackle some of today's most exciting challenges in engineering biology and neuroscience.

Over the past year, Belinda has completed her foundational CDT training, worked alongside leading researchers at Oxford and Bristol, and attended national conferences to deepen her understanding of engineering biology. The scholarship has also enabled her to undertake innovative research projects, from investigating how the brain processes signals to exploring graphene as a flexible material for next-generation neural interface devices.

Alongside her research, Belinda has embraced opportunities beyond her academic work. She has helped promote science communication through the Oxford Society for Science Communication and Engagement, written for The Oxford Scientist, and contributed to student and local community groups. These experiences have allowed her to develop as both a researcher and a communicator, preparing her for a career with impact beyond the laboratory.

This scholarship has allowed me to do so many things that I have not even dreamed to be possible before, and I am excited to continue my research in the next year!

Support for graduate scholarships gives students the freedom to focus on research, embrace new opportunities and develop as future leaders in their fields. Belinda’s experience is one example of how donor generosity is shaping the next generation of researchers at Brasenose.
