The Archives Office is next to the Library at the top of the Old Quad Tower. Please let us know if you need alternative arrangements, as access is via a steep staircase.
Office hours: Monday to Thursday, 10.00–12.00 and 13.00–16.00.
The Archives are a rich historical resource covering every aspect of College life. They include the foundation charter, Governing Body minutes, College accounts, architectural drawings, and papers of Principals, societies and alumni. We also hold early deeds and manorial records relating to College land ownership across England.
Many collections are in the process of being catalogued, and we are happy to advise on specific areas of interest.
Brasenose College Archives collect records relating to the institutional and social history of the College, and personal papers of members that significantly document College life and history.
We welcome donations in physical or digital formats. If you have material that may enrich the Archives, please contact the College Archivist at archives@bnc.ox.ac.uk.
The Archives record the architectural development of Brasenose from the first quadrangle of 1509 to present day renovations. Maps, plans and drawings document the work of architects including Sir Thomas Graham Jackson.
Since its foundation in 1509, Brasenose has owned more than two hundred estates and smaller properties across England. The estates records, including deeds, maps and correspondence, trace their management and sale, revealing the College’s economic history and regional links.
