As of last term, Brasenose now has a free of charge bike hire scheme for all undergraduates to take advantage of. There are a few bikes that are available for college members to use whenever they need, as part of a movement to help people be more environmentally friendly and cycle rather than getting a taxi. Inspired by the Boris Bikes, the bikes are free, easy to use and lower the carbon footprint of our college and helps the unfortunate students who have tutorials in the colleges over the hills and far away! The bikes are great for students to use at weekends to explore outside of the Oxford city centre and visit some of the great pubs on the outskirts. Our great workshop have been able to service and test the bikes for us and now given the popularity of the scheme, we are now in the process of buying even more bikes too!
Cass Kennedy (second year Chemist - pictured), who has been using the bikes, commented "I don't have my own bike in Oxford and so this bike scheme is perfect for me. I'm definitely going to use it for trips to the rowing tank at Iffley gym and for trips out of the city centre. Its great because not only does it encourage people to get active and help the environment, but also doesn't come with the demand of maintaining your own bike (something I am far too lazy and bad at mechanics to deal with)."
