Academic Background and Previous Positions
Dr Maroney studied for his doctorate in Theoretical Physics at Birkbeck College, London, under Professor Basil Hiley. He has since held post-doctoral teaching and research positions at: the University of Bristol; Imperial College London; the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics; the University of Waterloo; and the University of Sydney. He has been at the University of Oxford since 2011, working on interdisciplinary collaborations in Physics, Material Science, Philosophy and Computer Science.Undergraduate Teaching Areas
Dr Maroney provides undergraduate teaching in a range of topics, including philosophy of physics, philosophy of science, epistemology and metaphysics.
Research InterestsDr Maroney’s research focus is upon the philosophy of physics, with particular emphasis upon the interfaces between statistical mechanics, quantum theory and information theory.
