Brasenose College, Oxford - The 2011 Tanner Lectures
This year's Tanner Lectures will take place on 20 and 21 May in the Nelson Mandela Lecture Theatre at the Said Business School. They will be given by Martin L Weitzman, Professor of Economics at Harvard University, as we revisit another of the themes from our 2009 Quincentennial Lectures Meeting the Challenges of the 21st Century.
Professor Weitzman is a fellow of the Econometric Society and of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, has published widely in leading economics journals, and is the author of Income, Wealth and the Maximum Principle (Harvard 2003) and The Share Economy (Harvard 1984). His current research is focused on environmental economics, including climate change, the economics of catastrophes, cost-benefit analysis, long-run discounting, green accounting, and the comparison of alternative instruments for controlling pollution.
His first lecture will be at 5pm on Friday 20 May in the Nelson Mandela Lecture Theatre at the Said Business School and will be followed by a drinks reception. The second lecture will begin at 11am on Saturday 21 May, again at the Said.
On the Saturday, following the second lecture and a break for lunch, there will be the opportunity for discussion with a panel of further experts. This discussion panel will run from 1.30-3.30pm and will be followed by tea.
These are public lectures and are open to all.
