Brasenose College, Oxford - Undergraduate Admissions
Living in College is an important part of the experience of undergraduate life in Oxford. Not only does it provide a social base, but it is also convenient, comfortable and reasonably priced.
College accommodation consists of a mixture of bed-sitting rooms and individual sets, comprising a bedroom and study/living area, some with en suite facilities. All rooms have Internet connections or wireless access. The college has specially equipped rooms for students with physical disabilities.
The rents of College rooms vary according to the size of the room and the facilities available. First year undergraduates are allocated rooms with as much consideration as possible for preferences expressed on the Accommodation Form sent out at the time of confirmation of a place. The JCR conducts a room ballot for second, third and fourth years.
In recent years Brasenose has been able to accommodate all undergraduates wanting College accommodation. First years are housed together on the historic College site, second year students normally live in the Frewin Annexe (a five minute walk from the main site and also in the centre of Oxford), and there is accommodation for later year students on both sites.
All rooms are single rooms. Some rooms have en-suite facilities; others are close to shared bathrooms.
Second, third and fourth year undergraduates may also be housed in the Frewin Annexe in St Michael's Street, some five minutes walk from the main College and next to the Oxford Union. The accommodation comprises a mixture of shared flats and individual rooms, some of which are rented on a tenancy basis for 40 weeks meaning rooms do not need to be vacated until the end of the tenancy term. Frewin also has shared kitchen facilities, a computer room and printing facilities.
All student accommodation in Brasenose is split into six different bands which define the combination of features between the rooms. To help you choose which banding you would like to apply for the banding is explained below with photos of some of rooms. All rooms incur a facilities charge of £197 per term and some rooms pay a fee of £7.70 per term for background heating and some rooms pay for metered electric heating.
All student rooms consist of basic furniture ie: bed, chest of drawers, wardrobe, desk, chair, book shelves, easy chair, lamp, bedside table, coffee table.
Where possible the college provides a fridge, microwave and toaster for student use on each staircase.
Some of the middle to lower band rooms may have wooden flooring and you may have to go outside for the nearest toilet/shower room. The lower band rooms may not have the best outlook and can be quite small/compact with limited storage.
All Fresher rooms are situated on staircases, X, XI, XII (metered electric heating), XIII, XIV, XV, XVI, XVII, XVIII, New Stairs, Stamford House, Amsterdam (metered electric heating) & St Mary's
