Academic Background and Previous Positions
As an undergraduate I read History at University College, Durham, and I remained there for both my MA and PhD, which I completed in 2009. Last year I also held a Past and Present Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Institute of Historical Research in London. From 2005-2010 I also taught as a seminar tutor in Durham's Department of History.
Undergraduate Teaching Areas
British medieval history up to the thirteenth century and Europe more widely in the early middle ages.
Research Interests
Violence, law and the development of royal authority in Anglo-Saxon and Anglo-Norman England. Ecclesiatical sanctuary throughout medieval Europe.
