Brasenose College, Oxford - Visit by Her Majesty The Queen
Her Majesty The Queen visited
Brasenose College on the 2nd December 2009. This was her second
visit to the College. As Princess Elizabeth, The Queen lunched in Brasenose
when she visited the University in 1948. Other monarchs who have visited the
College include Queen Elizabeth I, in 1562 and 1592, King James I in 1605, and King
George III in 1786.
A large number of students, Fellows and staff gathered on Old Quad lawn to welcome The Queen to the College. She then spent half an hour in the Senior Common Room speaking with student representatives about life in College and had an opportunity to view two of the College's most precious manuscripts along with its Foundation Charter.
After lunch in Hall with the Principal, Professor Roger Cashmore, and over one hundred students, staff, lecturers and Fellows, The Queen met the College chefs and stewards before attending a musical and drama presentation by students in the Chapel, which included scenes from the College's history accompanied by several items from the Choir. The Queen concluded her visit by unveiling a plaque commemorating the Quincentenary of Brasenose College.
Whatever your interests, sporting or cultural, life at Brasenose offers a rich variety of entertainment and enjoyment.
